Grendizer U and "Fujinokami" Craft Gin Collaboration Announced!
The iconic robot anime Grendizer U, based on the works of Go Nagai and sharing the universe of Mazinger Z, has teamed up with the craft gin Fujinokami, made with the pure spring water of Mt. Fuji. Preorders for this special collaboration package begin on December 28.
This collaboration features dynamic sumi-e artwork, capturing the power of Grendizer through traditional Japanese ink painting. Created by renowned sumi-e artist Usui Mokyu (JP: 羽水もきゅ。 ), the art blends classical techniques with modern anime design, symbolizing the intersection of Japan’s cultural heritage and forward-looking creativity.
Grendizer U reboots the 1975 anime UFO Robo Grendizer, which became a massive hit in France as Goldorak, igniting the Japanese anime boom. Its 2024 revival garnered significant attention worldwide.
The craft gin Fujinokami uses Mt. Fuji’s spring water throughout its production process and is crafted with eight botanical ingredients for a rich aroma. Made entirely from Japanese spirits, its quality rivals that of London gin.
This special collaboration package will be made to order, with shipments scheduled for April 2025. The premium set, priced at 14,800 yen, includes a custom label, a special rocks glass, and a terracotta coaster. The gin alone will be available for 8,800 yen, while the sumi-e canvas board by Mokyu Hasui is priced at 4,800 yen.
Blending Japanese tradition with anime culture, this product is expected to captivate fans both in Japan and overseas. Visit the official website for more details and to place your preorder.

Usui Mokyu (JP: 羽水もきゅ。): Sumi-e Artist and Interior Painter
Usui Mokyu is a master of sumi-e (Japanese ink painting) and interior art, renowned for bold, dynamic brushstrokes and delicate shading that explore the full potential of ink as a medium. While his subjects include iconic Japanese themes like samurai and Sengoku-era warriors, his work transcends traditional motifs, featuring wrestlers, musicians, dragons, and robots reimagined in sumi-e artistry.
He began his artistic career under the tutelage of the painter from the Japanese-style hand-painted fashion brand Chikiriya. His work has been featured in various high-profile contexts, including costumes for comedian Hitoshi Matsumoto on the TV show Matsumoto Shinsuke and solo tour outfits for Anchang, vocalist and guitarist of SEX MACHINEGUNS.
His international reputation was bolstered when he performed live painting at a welcome party for filmmaker Tim Burton. This opened the door to demonstrations of hand-painted Yuzen dyeing at Takashimaya department store and invitations to events in the Philippines, Germany, and Cambodia.
In 2022, he contributed the brushwork for the music video of DOES’s single “BackBeat,” showcasing his versatile artistry to a global audience.
