Live-action ‘Golden Kamuy’ Drama Ends “Part 1”, Sequel Film Announced

The final episode of the drama series ‘WOWOW Drama W: Golden Kamuy – Hokkaido Tattooed Prisoners Arc’, which follows the live-action film adaptation of Satoru Noda’s manga ‘Golden Kamuy’ starring Kento Yamazaki, aired and streamed on WOWOW on the 1st. It was announced that a second film, continuing the drama series, has been greenlit.

At the end of the final episode, the words “Part 1 Complete” were displayed, and after the ending credits, which featured ACIDMAN’s song “Sonet” for episode 9, an urgent announcement declared, “The sequel film is in production!! Stay tuned!!!”

Prior to the airing of the final episode, it was announced that there would be a major announcement, sparking excitement on social media, with comments such as, “Is it finally safe to expect the word ‘sequel’?” and “Now that we’ve come this far, please finish it all the way to the end.”

Set in Hokkaido at the end of the Meiji era, the story is a mystery adventure revolving around Ainu treasure, with a cast of fascinating characters embarking on an action-filled journey. Sugimoto (Yamazaki), known as “Immortal Sugimoto” after surviving the Russo-Japanese War, joins forces with an Ainu girl, Asirpa (Anna Yamada), and an escaped prisoner from Abashiri Prison, Shiraishi (Yuma Yamoto), as they search for escaped prisoners with tattooed codes indicating the location of the gold. In the drama series, a three-way struggle unfolds between Sugimoto’s group, Hijikata Toshizo’s (Hiroshi Tachi) faction, and Lieutenant Tsurumi (Hiroshi Tamaki) and his men as they battle over the tattooed skins.
