Mengo Yokoyari Praises Live-Action 'Oshi no Ko': "Surpasses My Ideal Quality" – Viewers Respond Enthusiastically
Episodes 1 to 6 of the drama series from the 'Oshi no Ko' live-action adaptation project by Amazon and Toei were exclusively released globally on Prime Video for Prime members yesterday, the 28th. Mengo Yokoyari, who is responsible for the manga's artwork, updated her account on X on the 28th, sharing her thoughts on the project.
Starting its serialization in 2020 in 'Weekly Young Jump' by Aka Akasaka and Mengo Yokoyari, 'Oshi no Ko' has gained popularity with its fantastical setting of reincarnating as the children of a legendary idol named Ai, its suspenseful elements, and its fearless dive into the complex world of the entertainment industry. The live-action adaptation features a star-studded cast, including Kaito Sakurai, Asuka Saito, Nagisa Saito, Nanoka Hara, Mizuki Kayashima, Ano, and Ryo Narita.
Yokoyari expressed her gratitude, saying, "They have made it into a wonderful, loving piece of work. As the person responsible for the artwork, I really wanted to put more detail into the parts I had to omit due to time and other constraints (;-;). They've recreated it with a quality that truly surpasses my ideals."

She continued, "Moreover, as someone who loves 'Oshi no Ko', I think they have captured the strange allure or power of this work perfectly in this expanded version of 'Oshi no Ko'. It may be strange for the author to say it has gravity, but that’s how much I am drawn to and infatuated with this work, and how I have woven it with all my love, even when it has overwhelmed me. It’s a live-action adaptation that makes me happy because it feels like the love has been well-received. It’s filled with the love of so many people. I hope it reaches even more people."
Viewers on social media also reacted to the work: "I just finished the first episode and the quality is amazing," "The child actor's portrayal of Aquilby is outstanding," "The dying scene's acting and makeup are perfect," "The recreation of Ai's final moments is on point," and "The respect for the original work really comes through," among others.
Episodes 1 to 6 of the drama series were released yesterday, the 28th. Episodes 7 and 8 will be available from 9 p.m. on December 5. The movie continuation, 'Oshi no Ko -The Final Act-', distributed by Toei, will be released nationwide from December 20.
