About ONE PIECE: A Global Phenomenon
Since its debut in Weekly Shonen Jump on July 22, 1997, ONE PIECE has captivated fans worldwide. The epic tale follows Monkey D. Luffy, a boy who gains rubber-like powers after eating the Gum-Gum Fruit, as he sets sail to become the Pirate King by finding the legendary treasure left behind by Gol D. Roger.
The series has achieved staggering success, with over 510 million copies of its manga sold worldwide. Its anime adaptation has been airing since 1999, and the 2022 film ONE PIECE FILM RED earned ¥20.34 billion domestically, cementing its status as a cultural phenomenon.
Fans Awaiting the Manga’s Climax
In 2019, Oda revealed that the story of ONE PIECE would likely conclude within five years. As 2024 marks the fifth year since that statement, fans are on edge, eager to see how Luffy and the Straw Hat Pirates’ journey will end.
For now, fans can rest assured that Oda’s health has improved and that ONE PIECE will return on December 2 in the New Year issue of Weekly Shonen Jump.
