Prince of Tennis Creator Surprised by “Skylab Hurricane” Tribute in His Own Manga

Tennis no Oujisama (Prince of Tennis) creator Takeshi Konomi recently updated his social media, playfully reacting to a surprising cameo of the famous “Skylab Hurricane” move from Captain Tsubasa in his manga. Konomi expressed his surprise on X, saying, “Did Prince of Tennis really feature the legendary ‘Skylab Hurricane’ from Captain Tsubasa?”

In his post, Konomi shared a panel from the latest chapter, where he jokingly explained the moment. He noted that while the move was called "Tenkuu Shihai" (Sky Control) in Japanese, the furigana revealed it as Himmel Liebe Orkan, translating to “Sky Love Hurricane.” Catching on, he humorously added, “...Oh.”


Prince of Tennis: A Longstanding Legacy in Sports Manga

Running from 1999 to 2008 in Weekly Shonen Jump, Prince of Tennis follows the journey of middle school tennis prodigy Ryoma Echizen and his friends as they grow and compete. The series continues in its sequel, New Prince of Tennis, currently serialized in Jump Square. The latest anime adaptation, New Prince of Tennis U-17 World Cup Semifinal, is currently airing, bringing fans more of the thrilling matches and over-the-top techniques the series is known for.
