The original Prince of Tennis manga (TeniPuri), which ran in Weekly Shōnen Jump from 1999 to 2008, serves as the basis for this anime series. Its sequel, The New Prince of Tennis, has been serialized in Jump Square since 2009. The story follows the protagonist, Ryoma Echizen, and his growth alongside his teammates. The popular series was adapted into a TV anime on the TV Tokyo network starting in October 2001 and has since expanded into events, films, and more. The last The New Prince of Tennis TV anime aired in March 2012. After a 10-year hiatus, The New Prince of Tennis U-17 World Cup returned to television in 2022, continuing the story after the 2014 OVA series The New Prince of Tennis OVA vs Genius 10. The U-17 World Cup arc takes the stage to new heights, moving from the Kanto Tournament to the Nationals and finally the World Championships, where fierce matches against teams from all over the globe take place.
Episode 1 Summary
After defeating France and advancing to the semifinals, Japan faces its next opponent: the world’s number one team, Germany, led by their former teammate Tezuka. Before the battle, Ryoma watches the match between the U.S. and Switzerland and is informed that Ryoga has disappeared from his team. Meanwhile, Atobe visits Tezuka and offers to be his training partner. Kirihara, who happens to see Atobe entering Germany’s facility, witnesses Tezuka and Atobe together and begins to suspect that Tezuka might be a spy...
