Moana 2's New Song "Beyond" Debuts in Japanese Trailer & Poster – Disney's Epic Sequel Releases December 6
A new trailer and poster for the Japanese version of Moana 2 (in theaters on December 6), featuring the debut of the song "Beyond" (original title) sung by the protagonist Moana, has been released.
The original Moana (2016), which portrays the story of a girl with a special bond with the ocean as she embarks on an adventure to find her true path despite her struggles and doubts, remains beloved worldwide for its unforgettable songs like "How Far I'll Go." In this sequel, set three years after the grand adventure of the first film, Moana, now a bit more grown-up and with a new baby sister named Simea, embarks on a new journey alongside new friends, all while accompanied by Disney’s signature music in this heartwarming musical adventure.
Moana has been living happily with her beloved family and the people of her island. One day, she learns of a legend that says, "Once, people were connected by the sea, but a god who despised humans tore them apart. If you reach the island at the edge of the sea, the curse will be lifted, and the world will be united again." Moana sets sail to restore the broken bonds between people, but the journey to the island is filled with life-threatening dangers.
She may never see her baby sister Simea or her family again... Yet, determined to protect those she loves, Moana resolves, "I have to do it," overcoming her doubts and fears as she embarks on this endless journey. Her companion from the first film, the half-god Maui, encourages her by saying, "Moana, you're not alone," and with further support from her understanding grandmother Tala, Moana sets out on a new adventure with new friends from the island.
Disney heroines are known for their solo songs that express their struggles and hopes, becoming iconic tracks of their respective films, such as "This Wish" from Wish, "Part of Your World" from The Little Mermaid, and "I See the Light" from Tangled.
In the upcoming sequel, the new song "Beyond" (original title), following in the footsteps of Moana's iconic "How Far I'll Go," is Moana’s solo track, where she sings powerfully about her determination to push beyond her doubts and believe in herself. The song conveys the empowering message: "As long as you believe in yourself, there is no wrong path in this world... So, let’s go beyond—past the doubts and struggles."
The song is composed by the talented young musicians Abigail Barlow and Emily Bear, who won the Grammy Award for Best Musical Theater Album as the youngest winners in that category. Emily Bear also composed the theme song for the current Believe! Sea of Dreams night show at Tokyo DisneySea. The magnificent music they create in this film is sure to move everyone who hears it.
The new poster features Moana, the demigod Maui, the chicken Heihei, the lovable crying pig Pua, along with new characters, building excitement for the upcoming sea-faring adventure.
The newly released Japanese trailer also showcases the breathtaking adventure awaiting Moana, featuring graceful dolphins, mystical whale sharks glowing with a magical light, and the comical yet menacing coconut pirates, the Kakamora, who try to impede her journey.
There’s also Matangi, who confuses Moana with a swarm of bats, and a giant, ominous island attempting to swallow their ship as they steer hard through the rough seas. What awaits at the end of this even grander adventure? The trailer sets the stage with stunningly realistic depictions of tropical islands, beautiful skies, and the ocean, promising a visually epic story that defies traditional animation.
