‘Frieren: Beyond Journey’s End’ Orchestra Concert Sold Out! Aura Appears Briefly, 4,000 Fans Enchanted by Milet’s “Musical Magic of Happiness”

The orchestra concert for the anime Frieren: Beyond Journey’s End was held on August 21 at Pacifico Yokohama National Grand Hall in Kanagawa Prefecture, and the official report has been released. A full audience of 4,000 people was captivated by the “magic of music,” with a full orchestra performing the soundtrack from the anime, synced with scenes projected on a screen.

One of the highlights of the anime Frieren: Beyond Journey’s End has been its music, composed by Evan Call, who has worked on other notable projects such as the NHK Taiga drama The 13 Lords of the Shogun and the anime Violet Evergarden. Families were among the attendees, showing that Frieren has garnered a wide range of fans through its music as well.

As the Tokyo Philharmonic Orchestra took the stage, led by conductor Shinsuke Tajiri, the concert began. The opening piece was "Journey of a Lifetime ~ Frieren Main Theme," the first song composed by Evan Call for the anime. This grand composition, which captures the spirit of the entire work, was accompanied by screen projections of scenes from Frieren’s journey and images of the six main characters from both the hero's party and the new party.

From there, familiar tracks for fans were performed, weaving together Frieren's journey: “One Last Adventure” and “Farewell, My Friend,” which depict Frieren’s final adventure with Himmel and his passing; “Time Flows Ever Onward,” reflecting Frieren's meeting with her apprentice Fern; and “Zoltraak,” which heightened the intense battles against the demons.

In the middle of the concert, singer-songwriter milet, who performs the anime's ending theme, appeared on stage. Backed by the full orchestra, she sang “bliss,” composed by Evan Call, which was featured as the ending theme of the Friday Road Show premiere and as an insert song in episode 11, and “Anytime Anywhere,” a song she wrote and composed herself and which served as the ending theme throughout the second cour. Her powerful and resonant voice enchanted the audience.

Anytime Anywhere’ and ‘bliss’ were originally arranged by Evan Call with an orchestra in mind. I felt like I was finally able to sing them in the way they were meant to be performed. I’ve been singing these two songs for a long time, but tonight, I was reminded of how grateful I am to have written and sung these songs with all my heart. To sing them in front of people who love Frieren alongside the anime's visuals was an incredibly moving experience. It felt like Frieren had cast a magical spell of happiness through music. I’m deeply honored to have had this once-in-a-lifetime opportunity. I will always love Frieren, now and forever.

■Evan Call
The concert was absolutely amazing! It’s such an honor to see so many people who love Frieren and came to listen to the music. We put a lot of preparation into the concert, and thanks to the performers and conductor Mr. Tajiri, it turned into a magical night. And milet’s beautiful singing cast a perfect healing spell on all of us! I want to know the spell to make this happen again!
