"Magic Kaito," which started serialization in Weekly Shonen Sunday in 1987, is the story of Kaito Kuroba, a high school student who loves magic and his adventures as the phantom thief Kid. The character Phantom Thief Kid, who also appears in "Detective Conan" which began serialization in 1994, is based on this story, making it known as Gosho Aoyama's first serialized work.

The new series opens in commemoration of the story unfolding between Phantom Thief Kid and the western detective Heiji Hattori in the 27th film of the anime "Detective Conan," titled "Detective Conan: The Five-Starred Million Dollar Guiding Mark," which will be released on April 12.

In this new series, an important "new character" makes an appearance.
