THE GHOST IN THE SHELL Episode 5 Story & Preview Cuts Released: Kusanagi Heads North to Monitor a Combat Cyborg

The story and preview images for Episode 5 of the TV anime THE GHOST IN THE SHELL have been revealed. This episode will air on Tuesday, August 4 at 11:00 PM (JST), and will later be available on various international streaming platforms.

Episode 5 Story

Kusanagi and her team head to the northern tip to monitor the combat cyborg Coyle Krasnov. In order to uncover Coyle's true goal and the corruption hidden behind Sagawa Electronics' underground factory expansion, Kusanagi heads to Sagawa Electronics headquarters, while Batou and the others make their way to the underground factory.

Introduction

The year is 2029. Although the corporate networks span the stars and electrons and light race across the globe, the near-future Japan has not yet become so completely information-driven that nations and ethnicities have vanished.

Motoko Kusanagi, a full-body prosthesis cyborg, was commanding an elite unit including Batou while desiring the establishment of a specialized task force aimed at preventing crimes before they happen. Daisuke Aramaki of the Ministry of Home Affairs, who had been envisioning a similar unit, scouts Kusanagi and her team. Kusanagi and her comrades begin their operations as Public Security Section 9—an offensive organization known as the "Ghost in the Shell."

As they confront cybercrimes swirling with international conspiracies, the existence of an unidentified hacker known as the "Puppet Master" emerges on the radar of a certain investigation. What destiny awaits Kusanagi——and what is the Puppet Master's true objective? A new era of cyberpunk action begins——!!
