Doraemon: Nobita’s Steam-Powered Time Machine Opens in Spring 2027

Doraemon: Nobita’s Steam-Powered Time Machine (JP: 映画ドラえもん のび太の蒸気時間車 ), the forty sixth film in the Doraemon movie series, will open in Japan in spring 2027. A super teaser video and a teaser visual introducing the world of the film have also been released.

Doraemon and Friends Travel to Nineteenth Century London

The Doraemon movie series has taken its characters on grand adventures across Antarctica, Treasure Island, the moon, the world of dinosaurs, outer space, and even a utopia floating in the sky.

The latest film is set in London, England, during the nineteenth century. In this completely original story, Doraemon, Nobita, and their friends travel through time and space from twenty first century Japan and embark on a grand adventure involving the mysterious nature of time.

Rushio Moriyama will direct the film. Moriyama has worked on the Doraemon television anime since 2020 and has directed numerous episodes. This will be his first involvement in the Doraemon movie series.

“The Steam Powered Time Machine races through an exhilarating story of steam and time,” Moriyama said. “When I first read the Doraemon Long Stories as a child, I felt a tremendous sense of excitement and anticipation. I have traveled back to those feelings as I create this film today.”

He continued, “In spring 2027, climb aboard the Steam Powered Time Machine with Doraemon and his friends, and let us set out on a time traveling adventure filled with dreams.”

The screenplay is written by Makoto Ueda, head of the theater company Europe Kikaku. Ueda has created numerous works centered on time and science fiction, including Summer Time Machine Blues and Go Find a Psychic!

Ueda previously wrote the 2024 Doraemon birthday special Nobita and the Legend of the Greek Cake, but this will be his first contribution to the movie series.

“To think that I get to travel through time with Doraemon and his friends!” Ueda said.

Explaining why he selected nineteenth century London as the setting, he added, “It was where steam engines developed and where the time machine was born. In other words, it is the birthplace of time.”

“Although our daily lives are often controlled by time and spent chasing after it, we can also travel back through time, pursue it, or play beside the river of time. Let us board the Steam Powered Time Machine and set out on an adventure.”

Super Teaser Reveals Doraemon in Nineteenth Century Attire

The newly released super teaser features the words “Time,” “Something that flows equally for everyone,” and “The future exists because time passes.”

It also includes an English narration of one of Doraemon’s memorable lines from the original manga: “The future can change dramatically with the slightest turn of events.”

Sketches of familiar Secret Gadgets, including the Dress Up Camera and the Time Machine, appear in the video. The Steam Powered Time Machine, which will play a central role in the story, is also revealed.

At the end of the teaser, Doraemon appears in nineteenth century attire, wearing a top hat and cape, heightening anticipation for the new adventure.

The accompanying teaser visual depicts Doraemon smiling and waving from a steam locomotive in a nostalgic space filled with gears. The image evokes a time traveling journey connecting the past and future.

Further details are expected to reveal what kind of adventure Doraemon, Nobita, and their friends will experience in nineteenth century London.
