Original Anime RE:BEL ROBOTICA Announced: A Near Future Sci-Fi Story Set in Shibuya in 2050

RE:BEL ROBOTICA is a new original anime project set in Shibuya in the year 2050. Alongside the announcement, a newly illustrated visual by creator and character designer Mika Pikazo was unveiled.

Original Concept by Mika Pikazo Comes to Anime

The project began in 2017 as an independent work and self published doujin publication created by illustrator Mika Pikazo, known for collaborations such as Disney Collection by Mika Pikazo and character designs for Nintendo's RPG Fire Emblem Engage.

The franchise later expanded through RE:BEL ROBOTICA Episode #β (Beta), developed together with screenwriter Ryo Yoshigami, known for his work on the PSYCHO PASS series. In 2022, two novel adaptations, RE:BEL ROBOTICA 0 and RE:BEL ROBOTICA, written by Gakuto Mikumo, were published by Shinchosha.

The newly announced anime will inherit the world setting of the original work while telling a completely new anime original story set in Shibuya in 2050.

New Visual Features the Mysterious Girl Lily

The newly drawn visual depicts the mysterious girl Lily smiling as she reaches out her hand toward the viewer.

Mika Pikazo commented on the themes behind the project:
"RE:BEL ROBOTICA, which I originally created as a doujin work in 2017, is finally becoming a TV anime. Together with many people over many years, we built a story about humanity living in a world where happiness has become something everyone can naturally enjoy. Since childhood, I have been fascinated by the idea of happiness and have continued to question life within duty and restrictions. Through this work, I wanted to find meaning in the world. Through its charming characters and the lives of the many people who appear in it, the story expresses both hope and a sense of otherness. I hope you look forward to the original anime RE:BEL ROBOTICA."

Mika Pikazo has also been appointed as the Key Visual Illustrator for Anime Expo 2026, one of the largest Japanese anime and pop culture events in North America, scheduled to take place in Los Angeles from July 2 to July 5.

The event's key visual was created by Mika Pikazo, and attendees will be able to see panel appearances and special exhibitions during the convention. Visitors to the booth will receive a special booklet related to RE:BEL ROBOTICA, and will also have an early opportunity to watch a teaser PV featuring footage from the anime currently in production.
