Sunrise and SHAFT Announce First-Ever Joint Anime Project, New Information to Be Revealed on June 23

Sunrise and SHAFT, two of Japan’s most influential anime studios, have announced a brand-new animation project that marks their first production collaboration.

On June 18, Bandai Namco Filmworks revealed that SUNRISE Studios, known for the Mobile Suit Gundam franchise, and SHAFT, the studio behind Puella Magi Madoka Magica and the Monogatari Series, are joining forces for the first time on a new anime project.

Sunrise and SHAFT Team Up for the First Time

The project is being promoted under the banner of “Sunrise × SHAFT,” highlighting the first collaborative production between the two studios. An official X account has also been launched, where a countdown campaign has begun ahead of the full announcement.

The first countdown post featured a video created using color scripts, offering viewers a glimpse into the project's atmosphere and visual world. Additional countdown posts will be released on X over the next five days, leading up to the official information reveal scheduled for 12:30 a.m. JST on June 24.

Two Legendary Anime Studios Behind the Project

SUNRISE Studios is known for producing numerous original anime titles over the past four decades, including the Mobile Suit Gundam, Love Live!, and Code Geass series.

SHAFT, founded in 1975, is an animation studio recognized for acclaimed works such as Puella Magi Madoka Magica and the Monogatari Series. In addition to television anime, the company is involved in theatrical productions, commercials, games, and the management and distribution of animated works.
