Kodansha to Launch Publishing Joint Venture in India This Fall, Marking a First for a Major Japanese Publisher
Kodansha announced on June 15 that it will establish a joint venture publishing company in Delhi, India, in July together with Dai Nippon Printing Co., Ltd. and IJ Kakehashi Services Pvt. Ltd.

This marks the first time a major Japanese general publisher has established a local subsidiary in India to publish printed books and manga in the country. The company is scheduled to begin operations this fall.
Kodansha explained the reason behind the launch, stating that India has the world’s largest population, a large young demographic, rapid economic growth, and a rapidly expanding affluent class.
The new company aims to expand the market for Japanese entertainment by manufacturing, publishing, marketing, and carrying out related publishing and content businesses for local Indian editions of Kodansha content, including manga such as Attack on Titan and Blue Lock.
