Iron Wok Jan Main PV Reveals Nichido Ohtani and More New Characters, Additional Cast Includes M・A・O, Masuo Amada, Takahiro Sakurai, and More
The main promotional video for the upcoming TV anime Iron Wok Jan, premiering on July 5, has been released, introducing new characters including the infamous food critic Nichido Ohtani. It was also announced that M・A・O, Masuo Amada, Takahiro Sakurai, Taishi Murata, and Yusuke Kobayashi will join the cast. In addition, the opening theme song has been confirmed as “Kaen” by Genin ha Jibun ni Aru.

M・A・O will voice Sereine Yaung, a cheerful Kansai style chef who believes “rich flavor is everything” and pursues a fusion of Chinese and French cuisine. Masuo Amada plays Nichido Ohtani, the notorious food critic known as “The Man with the God Tongue,” who possesses exceptional taste but an unbearable personality. Takahiro Sakurai voices Kei Sawada, a charismatic chef who specializes in flame based cooking techniques. Taishi Murata portrays Tomohide Jun, the proud heir of a centuries old Chinese restaurant rooted in tradition, while Yusuke Kobayashi voices Yuji Kawahara, a data driven chef who approaches cooking as science.

Based on the legendary culinary battle manga serialized in Weekly Shonen Champion, Iron Wok Jan has surpassed 10 million copies in circulation across the series. The story follows the unconventional protagonist Jan Akiyama, whose motto is “Cooking is a battle!” His explosive cooking duels against powerful rivals made the manga a cult classic.

Jan and Kiriko Aim for the Top of Chinese Cuisine
The anime centers on Jan Akiyama, a genius chef obsessed with victory, and Kiriko, a pure hearted and talented young cook who believes “Cooking is heart.” At the famous Gobancho Restaurant, the two rivals sharpen their skills while aiming to become Japan’s greatest Chinese chefs.
Their journey leads them into an intense Chinese cooking tournament filled with eccentric culinary masters, each carrying their own philosophy and signature techniques that resemble magical finishing moves.

A feared culinary critic known as “The Man with the God Tongue.” Possessing both the worst personality and the finest palate, he mercilessly judges chefs with his sharp sense of taste. After being humiliated by Jan, he becomes obsessed with revenge and constantly throws unreasonable challenges at him despite serving as a judge.
Amada commented:
“The winner is strong. Only the strong survive. That kind of concept feels pretty provocative these days. Are we really allowed to say lines like this!? Ohtani is an absolutely awful guy who abuses authority and power however he wants. I’m putting everything I have into this role. Please look forward to it!”

A chef working at the Kobe based Chinese restaurant Sea Dragon. Born to a Hong Kong father and French mother, she grew up in Kobe and embraces a lively Kansai personality. Her goal is to popularize “Nouvelle Chinois,” a new style of Chinese cuisine inspired by French cooking.

A chef from the Roppongi Chinese restaurant Konron whose philosophy is “Cooking is flame.” In contrast to Jan, Kei is refined and highly popular with women. While he dazzles audiences with flashy fire performances, he is also an extremely skilled craftsman.
