Voice Actress Nao Toyama to Pause Singing Career After Next Year: “It Was a Choice I Made Myself”

Nao Toyama, a popular Japanese voice actress, announced on the 8th that she will pause her activities as a singer after next year.

The announcement was made directly to fans during her solo concert One Man Live 2026 “Matsuri.” Speaking on stage, Toyama explained, “With the 10th anniversary of my singing career next year, I have decided to take a break from my activities as a singer. This is something I thought through and chose for myself.”

She also addressed the reasons behind her decision, touching on her age and long term outlook. “Giving my all to both voice acting and singing, constantly raising the bar I set for myself and increasing the scale of what I do, feels like it goes a little against the natural process of getting older. I started to feel that continuing this way indefinitely might eventually lead to a sense of incompleteness or burnout,” she shared.

Regarding the length of the hiatus, Toyama emphasized that nothing has been decided yet. “I do not know how long the break will be. I have not decided whether it will be five years or ten years,” she said.

At the same time, she announced the realization of a long held dream. On March 11, 2027, her birthday, Toyama will hold her 10th Anniversary Final Live, titled “OVER THE RAINBOW at Nippon Budokan,” at the iconic Nippon Budokan in Tokyo.

Nao Toyama is widely known for her roles as Chitoge Kirisaki in Nisekoi, Kanon Nakagawa in The World God Only Knows, Reina Prowler in Macross Delta, Suma in Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba, and Luluka Moria, also known as Cure Arcana Shadow, in Star Detective Precure!, among many others.
