A Star Brighter Than the Sun Season 2 Confirmed Production Decision, Celebration Illustration and Comment from Creator Kazune Kawahara Released

The production of Season 2 of the TV anime A Star Brighter Than the Sun (JP: 太陽よりも眩しい星) has officially been confirmed. Along with the announcement, a special celebration illustration and a comment from the original creator, Kazune Kawahara, have been released.

The original manga is the latest work by Kazune Kawahara, a popular shoujo manga creator known for numerous titles that have been adapted into various media, including My Love Story!! (art by Aruko), High School Debut, and Sensei!. The series is currently serialized in Bessatsu Margaret (Shueisha).

The story centers on Sae Iwata, a slightly sturdier-than-average girl, and Koki Kamishiro, a gentle and physically fragile boy. When they were in elementary school, Sae fell in love at first sight with Koki’s smile. However, the slender and small boy she once knew grows into a refreshing and handsome young man by middle school, becoming someone who feels far out of reach. During their final middle school sports festival, the two are paired together once more, setting Sae’s long-hidden first love back into motion. No matter how distant he becomes, her dazzling star is always him. The series unfolds as a sparkling first-love story.

Kawahara’s celebration illustration depicts Sae and Koki smiling as they write “Season 2 Confirmed!!” on a classroom chalkboard. The words are surrounded by playful decorative elements such as stars, creating a cheerful and celebratory design.

Commenting on the Season 2 announcement, Kawahara said:

“It has been decided that a second season will be produced. This is all thanks to everyone who has supported the series. I am also deeply grateful to all the staff members. Just like in Season 1, the anime staff are incredibly skilled at condensing the story while highlighting the most important moments, so for Season 2, I asked them to create it based on the parts they find interesting within the overall story. I also really enjoyed the voice actors’ ad-lib performances, so I requested those as well. I am truly looking forward to seeing which parts will be adapted into the anime and how it will turn out. To all the readers and everyone who watched Season 1, thank you very much.”
