Jujutsu Kaisen is a dark fantasy series that begins when a powerful cursed object is unsealed, pulling high schooler Yuji Itadori into the world of battles against curses. Serialized in Weekly Shonen Jump from March 2018 to September 2024, the manga has surpassed 100 million copies in circulation.
The first TV anime aired from October 2020 to March 2021, followed by the 2021 film Jujutsu Kaisen 0, which became a worldwide box office hit with 26.5 billion yen. Season 2 aired from July to December 2023, and Season 3, Jujutsu Kaisen: Culling Game Part One, will premiere in January 2026.

— Uchida, how did you feel Yuji changed after experiencing the Shibuya Incident?
Uchida
Because of everything Yuji went through in the Shibuya Incident, I felt that he now carries a deep emotional instability. He may still be able to continue “as a sorcerer,” but I wondered whether he could continue “as a person.” Personally, I worry about Yuji not as a sorcerer but as a human being. Even so, he keeps trying to move forward.
Fushiguro tells him “start by saving me,” but as the one performing the role, I cannot help but feel very concerned for Yuji.
— Enoki, how did you interpret that line?
Enoki
Since Fushiguro wants to save Tsumiki, I imagine he truly meant it when he said “start by saving me.” At the same time, he likely believed those words would help Yuji face forward again. Because Fushiguro understands Yuji so well, that line carries a special weight, and it made me feel the strength of their bond.
Even though Jujutsu Kaisen is based on a shonen manga, it often presents emotional expressions that are not straightforward. This line is quite mature, containing multiple layers of meaning. It may indeed become a new curse for Yuji, but at the same time, it tells him, “You can fight for someone again,” and “You’re allowed to keep living.” I believe those words also carry hope.
