The first teaser featuring the live action SAKAMOTO DAYS has been released, showcasing Ren Meguro’s portrayal of the protagonist Taro Sakamoto in his plump one hundred forty kilogram form. The film is set to open on April 29 next year.

Based on the manga by Yuto Suzuki serialized in Weekly Shonen Jump, the film is directed by Yuichi Fukuda. The action comedy follows Taro Sakamoto, once the strongest hitman, who vanishes from the underworld after getting married. Now running a small shop with his family, he finds his peaceful life threatened as former enemies begin to target him again. For the live action adaptation, Meguro takes on two contrasting forms of Sakamoto, performing both the plump one hundred forty kilogram version and the sharply refined, slim figure that appears when he enters serious mode. He also takes on intense, superhuman action sequences.

The newly released teaser highlights Sakamoto’s overwhelming strength and warmth in his plump form, as well as his swift transformation into the lean and lethal assassin when serious. It also features gripping action scenes with his partner Shin Asakura portrayed by Fumiya Takahashi.

Alongside the family scenes featuring Sakamoto’s beloved wife Aoi played by Aya Ueto and their daughter Hana portrayed by Miyu Yoshimoto, the teaser contrasts the peaceful daily life Sakamoto cherishes with the looming danger as a bounty on his head draws him back into conflict.

While action scenes of the slim Sakamoto had already been revealed, expectations for the film’s accuracy to the manga have been steadily rising. Now, the long awaited debut of the plump Sakamoto’s action has finally been unveiled. On shoot days, Meguro underwent a dramatic transformation through special makeup that took approximately four hours each day, fully realizing the duality of the character.

Meguro, taking on full scale action for the first time, delivers powerful movement and sharp speed in both forms of Sakamoto. Upon the announcement of his casting, he commented, “I am taking on more action than ever before so I hope everyone looks forward to it,” expressing his confidence in the action scenes.
