The new anime film That Time I Got Reincarnated as a Slime: Tears of the Azure Sea is set for theatrical release in Japan on February 27, 2026. This completely new story marks the second feature-length movie in the series, arriving approximately three years after the previous installment. The film introduces three original characters voiced by Koichi Domoto, Saori Onishi and Koji Yusa.

The Slime series, which has surpassed 56 million copies in circulation, is based on a web novel about Rimuru Tempest, a reincarnated slime who works with allies to build an ideal nation. Production for the anime’s fourth season has already been announced. In the new movie, the story unfolds in the underwater kingdom of Kaien.

Koichi Domoto voices Zodon (JP: ゾドン), a minister of Kaien and a pivotal figure in the narrative. This marks his first appearance in an anime film and his first voice acting role since the 2006 TV anime Jyu-Oh-Sei (JP: 獣星王). Domoto commented that he was delighted to take on the role of Zodon, a character unlike any he has played before, and expressed how honored he felt to join the widely loved Tensura series.

Saori Onishi plays Yura (JP: ユラ), a shrine maiden who offers prayers to the water dragon. Known for roles such as Mejiro McQueen in Umamusume: Pretty Derby, she shared her excitement about joining the long-beloved franchise. Meanwhile, Koji Yusa voices Djeese (JP: ジース), the chancellor of Kaien and a trusted figure supported by both the king and the citizens. Yusa remarked that he hopes fans will witness what kind of incidents Djeese becomes embroiled in.

The newly revealed second key visual showcases Rimuru and the main cast assembled around a majestic water dragon, emphasizing the grand scope of the film. The full trailer highlights the conspiracy threatening Kaien and Rimuru’s efforts to confront it, with an impactful shot of Yura rising to her feet with the “dragon flute.”

The theme song, titled Utopia, is performed by TRUE, marking her sixth musical collaboration with the Slime franchise. TRUE commented that she crafted a “blue love song” inspired by the oceanic setting and hopes viewers will feel how the song resonates with the story within the theater.
