“Moyasimon+” Releases Unprecedented Microbe Art Video Created with Real Bacteria

To celebrate the release of volume 1 of the manga Moyasimon+, a special video titled “Drawn with Real Microbes” has been unveiled. The “microbe art movie” recreates the story of Sawaki (the protagonist who can see and interact with microbes with the naked eye) using actual living microorganisms. Familiar microbes such as Oryzē also make an appearance, joyfully declaring, “We’re back to ferment after 11 years!” to mark the manga’s long-awaited return.

This one-of-a-kind experiment was made possible through the cooperation of Professor Tanaka’s laboratory at the Faculty of Life and Environmental Sciences, Yamanashi University. The lab, which conducts research on the discovery and utilization of unknown microorganisms, has also been exploring the artistic potential of microbes.
