Celebrating 40 Years of Back to the Future: Legendary Manga Artists and Illustrators Pay Tribute with Special Artwork
On October 21, the date Marty McFly famously traveled to the future in Back to the Future Part II, a special project celebrating the 40th anniversary of the legendary film series was announced. The tribute event will take place within the official exhibition and merchandise booth (organized by GRANUP) at Tokyo Comic Convention 2025 (Tokyo Comic Con 2025), held from December 5 to 7 at Makuhari Messe in Chiba.

Loved worldwide for decades, Back to the Future remains a timeless masterpiece. In honor of its enduring legacy, ten of Japan’s top manga artists and illustrators have joined forces to reinterpret the film’s world through their own creative lenses. Their exclusive artworks will be displayed at the venue, each one reflecting a unique vision infused with admiration for the series. Additionally, limited-edition merchandise featuring these illustrations will be available for purchase, making this a must-see celebration for fans.

A special photo spot inside Tokyo Comic Con 2025 will let visitors take commemorative photos with the iconic time machine from Back to the Future (concept image).
Step Into the Movie: Take a Photo with the DeLorean
Visitors who spend over 8,800 yen (tax included) at the merchandise booth will gain access to a special photo spot featuring the legendary time machine, the DeLorean. Attendees can capture a memorable photo with friends or family in an immersive setting that feels straight out of the film itself.
Meet the Cast of Back to the Future
Tokyo Comic Con 2025 will also welcome key cast members from the beloved trilogy, including Christopher Lloyd (Doc Brown), Lea Thompson (Lorraine Baines McFly), Tom Wilson (Biff Tannen), and Claudia Wells (Jennifer Parker). They will appear for autograph and photo sessions with fans. A special 40th anniversary ceremony will be held on the main stage on December 7, marking the exact day the original film premiered in Japan.

Exclusive Signed Portraits by Michael J. Fox
In celebration of the milestone, limited-edition autographed portraits signed by Michael J. Fox, who portrayed Marty McFly, will be available for pre-purchase. Two versions will be offered—one signed solely by Fox and another co-signed with Mary Steenburgen (Clara Clayton). Redemption will take place at a designated booth in Hall 5, with details to be announced on the official website. If advance tickets do not sell out, on-site sales may also be offered during the event.
