The top spot for 2021 was taken by "Jujutsu Kaisen."

After the conclusion of "Demon Slayer," "Jujutsu Kaisen" attracted attention as Shueisha's next flagship series. The series had already gained popularity, partly due to its TV anime adaptation, and in 2021, it reached a major climax with the "Shibuya Incident," which the author referred to as the first major turning point. Additionally, at the end of 2021, the prequel movie "Jujutsu Kaisen 0" was released, generating significant buzz.

The series demonstrated phenomenal popularity by selling 30.91 million copies in one year. While the second place "Demon Slayer" came close, it secured the top spot with overwhelming numbers.

"Jujutsu Kaisen," the first serialized work by author Gege Akutami, began its serialization in "Weekly Shonen Jump" in March 2018. The dark fantasy series follows high school student Yuji Itadori, who enters a world of battles against curses after the seal of a powerful cursed object is broken.
