Takahiro Sakurai Discusses Playing Suguru Geto in Jujutsu Kaisen 0
—In Jujutsu Kaisen 0: The Movie, you played the original Suguru Geto. What were you most conscious of in differentiating him from Pseudo-Geto?
Sakurai: Recording as Pseudo-Geto in the first TV season was difficult, and I often relied on direction from the production team. In contrast, for Jujutsu Kaisen 0, I played the original Geto—although it was after he had become a curse user—and I felt there were no major constraints like in Season 1. I could express myself more freely. Rather than consciously focusing on differences, I simply regarded Pseudo-Geto as a separate entity. I didn’t try to make them sound different or keep them apart as distinct characters. My intention was simply to portray Suguru Geto as he is.
Impressions of Megumi Ogata and Kana Hanazawa’s Performances
—The trailer released recently highlighted Geto’s battle with Yuta. Was there anything that stood out to you in the performances of Megumi Ogata and Kana Hanazawa?
Sakurai: I thought Ms. Ogata recorded her lines with great care. Since Yuta Okkotsu is drawn into this world unexpectedly, she conveyed his inner struggles and transformation with both subtlety and boldness, which I found impressive. Ms. Hanazawa also skillfully distinguished between Rika Orimoto’s appearance as a young girl and as a special-grade vengeful cursed spirit. Although Rika’s cursed form looks frightening, Ms. Hanazawa’s performance gave her a sense of affection. Behind that lies the tragedy of Yuta and Rika, but it clearly came across as something more than just sadness, which I found remarkable.
