Vigilante: My Hero Academia ILLEGALS Season 2 Announced for January 2026
The news was revealed on September 21 at the stage event for “Kyoto International Manga Anime Fair 2025” (KyoMAF), where Shuichiro Umeda, voice actor of the protagonist Koichi Haimawari, made a surprise appearance. Umeda commented:
“Season 2 of Vigilante will finally begin in January 2026. I have always been looking forward to reuniting with Koichi and the others. While Deku’s story is reaching its climax, I hope everyone can continue to immerse themselves in the world of My Hero Academia through Koichi and the others in this spinoff. Please enjoy it!”
The manga Vigilante: My Hero Academia ILLEGALS is a canonical spinoff of My Hero Academia, written by Hideyuki Furuhashi and illustrated by Betten Court. It was serialized on the Shonen Jump+ app from 2017 to 2022, with a total of 15 collected volumes published.
The series is set a few years before the events of the main story and depicts the lives of vigilantes (unlicensed heroes) who cannot officially call themselves “Heroes,” yet still cannot stop themselves from saving others.
Meanwhile, My Hero Academia itself takes place in a world where most people possess superhuman abilities known as “Quirks.” The story follows Izuku Midoriya, also known as Deku, who strives to become a Hero by enrolling at U.A. High School, where he grows alongside his classmates while battling Villains who misuse their Quirks.
The original manga began serialization in Weekly Shonen Jump in July 2014 and concluded on August 5, 2024. It has surpassed 100 million copies in circulation. The TV anime premiered in April 2016, followed by multiple theatrical films. Season 7 concluded in October 2024, and production of Season 8 has already been confirmed.
