The anime movie "THE FIRST SLAM DUNK," released on December 3, 2022, will be re-released in over 300 theaters nationwide from August 13. This large-scale re-release is highly unusual. The movie is based on the basketball manga "SLAM DUNK," serialized in "Weekly Shonen Jump" from 1990 to 1996. It follows Hanamichi Sakuragi, a basketball novice who joins Shohoku High School's basketball team and quickly develops his talent through clashes with teammate Kaede Rukawa and matches against strong schools. The manga's gripping game depictions and characters' youth dedicated to basketball resonated with readers, leading to overwhelming support and a total domestic series circulation of over 120 million copies. A TV anime with 101 episodes aired from 1993 to 1996. The new movie is directed and scripted by the original author, Takehiko Inoue, with animation by Toei Animation/Dandelion Animation Studio. The voice cast for the Shohoku members has been completely renewed, featuring Shugo Nakamura as Ryota Miyagi, Jun Kasama as Hisashi Mitsui, Shinichiro Kamio as Kaede Rukawa, Subaru Kimura as Hanamichi Sakuragi, and Kenta Miyake as Takenori Akagi. The box office revenue recorded 10,959,356 viewers and a revenue of 15.86 billion yen.
