Original Creator Tsukasa Hojo Comments on the New Series
Original creator Tsukasa Hojo expressed his gratitude to fans for allowing Cat's♥Eye to return as an anime after many years. He noted that this new adaptation stays closer to the original manga and includes characters who had not appeared in previous animations—such as Makoto Kamiya, a freelance writer who served as the basis for Ryo Saeba of City Hunter. Hojo hopes that City Hunter fans will enjoy discovering the roots of Ryo’s character through Kamiya’s appearance.
He also shared hopes that the new story of the three sisters will reach a new generation unfamiliar with the original series.
New Characters and Plot Developments Revealed
The newly released trailer introduces two characters—Detective Mitsuko Asatani and freelance writer Makoto Kamiya. Asatani states, “I believe there may be someone colluding with Cat's Eye,” while Kamiya comments, “All your intel leaks right through. Silly little kittens.” Their interactions hint at more complex developments to come.
The story continues to explore the forbidden romance between thief and detective, as well as the hidden motivations behind the Kisugi sisters’ criminal activities.
Background on Cat's♥Eye
Cat's♥Eye originally ran in Weekly Shonen Jump from 1981 to 1984 as Tsukasa Hojo’s debut serialized work. The story follows the Kisugi sisters—Hitomi, Rui, and Ai—who secretly operate as the phantom thieves “Cat's Eye” while running a café by the same name. The anime gained popularity for its stylish heists and the suspenseful romance between Hitomi and Detective Toshio Utsumi. It was first adapted into an anime in 1983.
The series has maintained strong popularity not only in Japan but also across Asia and the West. In 2022, it celebrated its 40th anniversary with an art exhibition, and it continues to expand across various media.
