Summer Wars Sacred Site: 400-Year-Old Sake Brewery in Nagano Featured on Japanese TV

The sake brewery Takeshige Honke Shuzo in Saku City, Nagano Prefecture, has been revealed as the model for the Jinnouchi family home in Summer Wars. With a history of over 400 years and 30 registered cultural properties, the site was featured on Japanese TV, highlighting its significance as an anime sacred site and cultural heritage.

The Real-Life Inspiration for Summer Wars’ Jinnouchi Family

The Takeshige residence, home to the family behind Takeshige Honke Shuzo, inspired the Jinnouchi family home in Summer Wars. Even the residence’s nameplate appeared in the film with a changed name, establishing its place as a sacred site for fans.

Historic Estate with Cultural Properties

The estate covers about 7,600 square meters and contains 30 buildings designated as Registered Tangible Cultural Properties. Its architecture has also been featured in films such as Yoji Yamada’s The Twilight Samurai (2002) and What a Wonderful Family! III: My Wife, My Life (2018).

Preserved Heritage and Sake Brewing Legacy

Inside the residence, traditional items such as bamboo sliding doors, long brazier hearths, and matchlock guns remain. The grounds also include a Hachiman Shrine built to celebrate a family birth. Takeshige Honke Shuzo has received numerous awards in sake competitions, and its brewery is adorned with certificates and autographed boards from successive prime ministers.
