Does “Frieren: Beyond Journey's End” look strange? The group picture received a reaction of “Is this a foreshadowing of something...w” and "Only one of them is a demon.

The official X account for the popular manga Frieren: Beyond Journey's End has been launched, and after it posted a novel illustration, it quickly became a hot topic online.

The illustration is the cover art from a previously released novel, which is a collection of five short stories, each featuring one of the characters—Frieren, Fern, Stark, Lawine & Kanne, and Aura—as the main protagonist.

The cover illustration features Frieren's companions, as well as Aura, who once fought them as an enemy. Fans have reacted with comments like, "There’s one demon among them," "Is Aura facing away some kind of foreshadowing...? lol," and "Aura looks so out of place with this group, it's hilarious."

Frieren: Beyond Journey’s End is based on the manga of the same name, which has been serialized in Weekly Shonen Sunday since April 2020. It’s a “post-epic fantasy” that depicts the aftermath of a hero party’s defeat of the Demon King. The story follows Frieren, an elf mage, as she embarks on new adventures in a world without the hero, alongside her new companions.

Set in the unique timeline of “after the Demon King’s defeat,” the story weaves together emotionally resonant drama and dialogue, thrilling battles with magic and swords, and moments of humor that bring genuine laughter—all brought to life by its rich cast of characters. This popular series won the Grand Prize at the Manga Taisho 2021 and has surpassed 30 million copies in total circulation. The TV anime adaptation aired from September 2023 to March 2024.

Season 1 concluded with Frieren, Fern, and Stark continuing their journey toward their destination, the resting place of souls known as “Aureole.” Season 2, set to air in January 2026, will pick up from Chapter 61, which is included in Volume 7 of the original manga.
