Frieren: Beyond Journey’s End Manga Tops 30 Million Copies Worldwide and Returns on July 23

The beloved manga Frieren: Beyond Journey’s End has surpassed a worldwide total of 30 million copies in circulation, Shogakukan announced on July 16. Alongside this milestone, it was revealed that the manga will resume serialization in Weekly Shonen Sunday Issue 34, set to be released on July 23.

Commenting on this achievement, the editorial team at Weekly Shonen Sunday shared, “We are deeply grateful that Frieren: Beyond Journey’s End, created by Kanehito Yamada and Tsukasa Abe, has resonated with so many readers around the world. The fact that the manga is being embraced globally—not just in Japan—is clearly reflected in the impressive figure of 30 million copies.”

The team also attributed the manga’s success to its unique concept: “Set in a world after the Demon King has been defeated, the story follows the elven mage Frieren on her journey through themes of life, death, and the passage of time. Its distinctive storytelling continues to captivate readers. The anime adaptation has further fueled its popularity worldwide, with streaming platforms such as Crunchyroll and Netflix helping it gain fans across North America, Europe, and Asia. Today, it stands as one of the most beloved contemporary manga titles globally.”

Original creator Kanehito Yamada and illustrator Tsukasa Abe expressed their gratitude: “Thank you so much for your continued support! We owe it all to our readers. Please also look forward to the second season of the anime airing in January 2026.”

With the serialization restarting on July 23, the new arc will plunge readers into a suspense-filled imperial ball, where an assassination plot brews in the shadows. Amid the schemes and swirling intrigue, Frieren nonchalantly enjoys cake—a signature touch of the series. The mages must now confront a looming threat in the imperial capital in this next chapter of the “post-epic” fantasy tale.

Frieren: Beyond Journey’s End originally began serialization in Weekly Shonen Sunday in April 2020. The story explores the aftermath of the Demon King’s defeat, focusing on Frieren, an elven mage, as she embarks on a new journey alongside newfound allies in a world reshaped by peace. With its emotional storytelling, poignant dialogue, exhilarating battles involving magic and swords, and moments of humor, the series has captured the hearts of readers. It won the Grand Prize at the 2021 Manga Taisho Awards and continues to expand its readership with over 30 million copies in circulation.

The anime’s first season aired from September 2023 to March 2024 and concluded with Frieren, Fern, and Stark continuing their quest to reach Aureole, the resting place of souls. The second season, premiering in January 2026, will adapt the story beginning from Chapter 61 in Volume 7 of the manga.
