Teaser PV for Frieren: Beyond Journey’s End Season 2 Unveiled at Anime Expo 2025, Set to Air January 2026 with New Director Tomoya Kitagawa at the Helm

The first teaser PV for Season 2 of the Frieren: Beyond Journey’s End TV anime—set to premiere on Nippon TV in January 2026—has been officially released. This marks the first footage from the upcoming season and features newly recorded voiceovers by Atsumi Tanezaki (Frieren), Kana Ichinose (Fern), and Chiaki Kobayashi (Stark).

New staff details have also been announced. Tomoya Kitagawa, who directed acclaimed episodes such as Episode 2 and Episode 8 and served as the chief episode director during the second cour of Season 1, will take over as the main director. Daiki Harashina, known for his work as monster designer and animation director on multiple episodes, will serve as assistant director. Keichiro Saito, who directed Season 1, will support the new leadership as a supervisory director.

These announcements were made during the Frieren stage event at Anime Expo 2025 in Los Angeles. Producer Yuichiro Fukushi from animation studio MADHOUSE stated, “We’ve built a new directorial structure based on discussions with the staff to ensure Season 2 maintains and evolves the creative standards set in Season 1. With the foundation built by Keichiro Saito and the multi-talented Daiki Harashina, we will continue our creative journey alongside Tomoya Kitagawa, who helmed many of Season 1’s most memorable episodes.”

Additional staff returning from Season 1 include Tomohiro Suzuki for series composition and scripts, and character designers Maru Takase, Keisuke Kojima, and Yuri Fujinaka. Evan Call will also return as composer, bringing a new musical score to the series.

The teaser PV showcases high-quality visuals from MADHOUSE, depicting Frieren, the mage Fern, and the warrior Stark on their journey. It also features the legendary heroes who defeated the Demon King—Himmel the Hero, Heiter the Priest, and Eisen the Warrior—engaged in their respective adventures. Accompanied by Evan Call’s newly composed score and freshly recorded voice lines by the main cast, the PV offers a poignant glimpse into the emotional growth and deepening bonds of the three protagonists.

Frieren: Beyond Journey’s End is based on the manga of the same name, serialized in Weekly Shonen Sunday since April 2020. The story follows Frieren, an elven mage, as she embarks on a new journey with fresh companions in a world after the Demon King’s defeat. This unique “post-heroic” fantasy has captivated readers with its heartfelt drama, magical battles, and subtle humor. It won the Grand Prize at the 2021 Manga Taisho Awards and has surpassed 24 million copies in circulation.

Season 1 aired from September 2023 to March 2024 and ended with Frieren, Fern, and Stark heading toward the resting place of souls, Aureole. Season 2 will begin with Chapter 61 from Volume 7 of the manga.
