The official website of the long-running Pretty Cure series has revealed the true identities of the mysterious duo “Cure Zukyun” and “Cure Kiss,” who made a dramatic appearance in Episode 17 of the 22nd installment, You and Idol Pretty Cure (Kimi to Idol Prett Cure, キミとアイドルプリキュア♪| Airs Sundays at 8:30 a.m. JST on ABC TV/TV Asahi). The duo is none other than the fairies Purirun and Meroronwikipedia. Their transformation and how they became Pretty Cures will be fully revealed in Episode 19, airing on the 15th.

In Episode 17, the two appeared in dazzling fashion to save the idol Pretty Cures in a moment of crisis, quickly generating buzz online. Cure Zukyun / Purirun (voiced by Yoshino Nanjo) is a fairy from Kirakiland who came in search of the idol Pretty Cures. She’s easygoing and loves octopus-shaped sausages. When she blinks, she can see sparkles. Fueled by her heartfelt desire to protect Cure Idol, she transforms into Cure Zukyun alongside Meroron, using her “Zukyun” fanservice. Her transformation call is: "Heart locked on with a puri-pop! Zukyun with you—Cure Zukyun!" (JP: ハートをプリっとロックオン！ キミとズッキュン、キュアズキューン)

Cure Kiss / Meroron (voiced by Miharu Hanai) is also a fairy from Kirakiraland. She's bold, playful, and well-read—sometimes speaking in poetic phrases. Though not actually sisters, she lovingly calls Purirun “Nee-tama.” To fulfill Purirun’s wish, she joins her and transforms into Cure Kiss with a “Blown Kiss” fanservice. Her transformation call is: "Melting your heart with a mellow spark! A kiss with you—Cure Kiss!" (JP: ハートをメロっとひとりじめ！ キミと口づけ、キュアキッス！)

The lyric video for their new duo song “Awakening Harmony” has also been released. To commemorate their debut, the special event You and Idol Pretty Cure♪ Premiere Debut Live: Zukyun Kiss Stage!! will be held on the 29th at Ark Hills Karajan Plaza. — How did you feel when you were cast as a Pretty Cure?
I was surprised, thrilled, and a little overwhelmed all at once! I was deeply honored and resolved to treasure this year with Purirun, Zukyun, and the whole Kimipuri team, as if receiving a relay baton passed down through generations.

— What do you find appealing about You and Idol Pretty Cure♪?
Everyone sparkles with "Kirakiranran" energy! Each character passionately walks their own path, and that gives me such a refreshing boost. During recordings, the entire cast works together to make each character as captivating as possible, which is inspiring. I was especially moved when the producer, Mr. Murase, said, “An idol can’t exist alone—it's the presence of ‘you’ that brings them to life.” That made me reflect on the fans who always support me. I’m really drawn to how this team portrays idols as more than just cute and sparkly figures.

— What do you love about Purirun / Cure Zukyun?
She radiates pure, warm light. Both Purirun and Zukyun express their feelings honestly, without calculation. In the episode about Nana's Seven Wonders, while others were worried about her odd behavior, Zukyun approached it with the feeling: “She’s sparkling and looks happy—so Happy Puri!” That pure perspective is one of her most charming traits.

— How did you feel when you were cast as a Pretty Cure?
I couldn’t believe it! My mind went blank. I’ve watched and admired Pretty Cure since I was little, so it felt surreal. At the same time, I was overjoyed that my dream and goal of becoming a Pretty Cure was coming true—it was a humbling and emotional moment.

— What do you find appealing about You and Idol Pretty Cure♪?
With its idol theme, everything is so cute!!! Phrases like “fan service” and “support with Kira Kira Light” feel so current, which adds to its charm. Every episode brings healing energy from the Idol Pretty Cures, Purirun, Meroron, and all the characters!

— What do you love about Meroron / Cure Kiss?
Cure Kiss is mysterious, cool, and mature. She stays calm and collected—except when it comes to Cure Zukyun, who makes her completely lose composure (laughs). Meroron is emotionally expressive and totally devoted to her “Nee-tama,” Purirun. That devotion is definitely her most endearing trait.

About You and Idol Pretty Cure

The theme of You and Idol Pretty Cure revolves around idols. With the belief that "Because you're here, I can shine and become stronger!", the Pretty Cure idols sing, dance, and engage with fans, using their performances to restore Kirakira to those who have lost it.

The story follows Uta Sakura, a second-year middle school student who loves to sing. One day, she meets Purirun, a fairy searching for the Idol Pretty Cure, the legendary savior of Kirakiland. Kirakiland has been plunged into darkness by Darkine, the leader of the Chokkiri Gang.

As the Chokkiri Gang begins stealing the Kirakira from townspeople, a desperate Uta declares, "I want to bring back the Kirakkiranran feeling! With my song!" Her determination resonates, and she transforms into the legendary Cure Idol.
