Shueisha has announced the launch of the Shueisha Seinen Manga Newcomer Award 2025 (JP: 集英社青年漫画新人大賞2025), a new competition designed to uncover fresh talent capable of leading the future of seinen manga. The initiative brings together the editorial teams of all four publications in Shueisha’s seinen manga division: Weekly Young Jump, Tonari no Young Jump (web), Ultra Jump, and Grand Jump. Submissions are now open. One of the standout features of this new award is its global scope—there are no nationality restrictions for applicants, although all entries must be written in Japanese.

This award builds on two previous large-scale contests organized primarily by Weekly Young Jump: the “100 Million Yen 40th Manga Award (JP:1億円40漫画賞)” in 2019 and the “Weekly YJ 45th Anniversary Seinen Manga Newcomer Award (JP: 週刊YJ45周年記念 青年漫画新人大賞)” in 2024. The former led to the discovery of talents like Hirai Ohashi, whose work The Days of Diamond topped the 2024 male edition of Kono Manga ga Sugoi!, while the latter awarded over 4.5 million yen across seven winning titles.

These initiatives have laid the foundation for the new, unified award, which will now be held annually. To mark its ambitious start, a panel of acclaimed manga artists—Aka Akasaka, Toshio Sako, Satoru Noda, Yasuhisa Hara, and ONE—will serve as the final judges. Each is known for producing flagship titles under Shueisha’s seinen manga labels.
