Hell Teacher Nūbē Launches Two New Manga Series Ahead of New Anime Debut on July 2

The iconic supernatural series Hell Teacher Nūbē (Jigoku Sensei Nūbē) is returning with not one, but two brand-new manga serials—a rare double launch ahead of its upcoming anime reboot. The announcement was made on May 1, confirming that:

Hell Teacher Nūbē PLUS will begin serialization on the Shonen Jump+ app starting May 14, updating every Wednesday.

Hell Teacher Nūbē Kai (怪) launches in the June issue of Saikyō Jump, released May 2.

This dual serialization commemorates the long-awaited new TV anime, which will premiere on July 2, 2025, marking a major revival of the beloved 1990s franchise.

Details on the New Manga Series

Hell Teacher Nūbē PLUS explores untold stories set during the time when Hiroshi Tateno, Kyoko Inaba, and their classmates were in Class 5-3 of Dōmori Elementary School. It dives deep into the hidden supernatural happenings around their hometown, Dōmori Town.

Hell Teacher Nūbē Kai follows a more high-concept adventure, where Nūbē must travel across time and space to rescue his students from a realm consumed by ghost stories and folklore. Expect intense spiritual action and classic Nūbē heroics.

Legacy of the Hell Teacher Nūbē Franchise

Created by Shō Makura (story) and Takeshi Okano (art), Hell Teacher Nūbē originally ran in Weekly Shonen Jump from 1993 to 1999, telling the tale of Meisuke Nueno (aka Nūbē), a psychic elementary school teacher with a “Demon Hand” used to exorcise spirits and protect his students.

Blending school horror, urban legends, and action, the series has been a long-standing favorite in Japan, with over 29 million manga copies sold. It spawned several follow-up series, including:

Hell Teacher Nūbē NEO (2014–2019)

Hell Teacher Nūbē S (2018–2021)

In addition to a 1996–97 TV anime, a live-action drama adaptation starring Ryuhei Maruyama of SUPER EIGHT aired in 2014.

New Anime to Premiere July 2 with Split Two-Cour Format

The upcoming new anime will be the first animated installment in 26 years, since the 1999 OVA Hell Teacher Nūbē: The Great Fierce Battle!! The Arrival of Zekki!!. It has been updated with modernized settings and themes.

The role of Nūbē is once again played by veteran voice actor Ryōtarō Okiayu, and animation production is handled by Studio KAI. The show will follow a split-cour format, with the first cour starting July 2 and the second cour airing from January 2026.

The premiere will be a one-hour special (two episodes back-to-back) airing at 11:15 PM JST, followed by weekly broadcasts every Wednesday at 11:45 PM on the TV Asahi IMAnimation W block, available nationwide.
