The anime Too Many Losing Heroines! held a special event titled “Extracurricular Activities of Tsubaki High School’s Literature Club” on April 6 at FOSTER Hall (Akishima Civic Hall), drawing fans into the world of the beloved “losing heroines” once more. Attending the event were cast members Shūichirō Umeda, Hikaru Tono, Shion Wakayama, Momoka Terasawa, and Minami Tanaka. The two-hour event featured a theatrical live reading and live music performances, culminating in a surprise announcement of the anime’s second season.

A Fully Immersive Literature Club Reunion

As the opening chime rang, the stage transformed into the Literature Club room, where Kazuhiko Nukumizu (voiced by Shūichirō Umeda), Lemon Yakishio (Shion Wakayama), and Chika Komari (Momoka Terasawa) began an earnest conversation. It was revealed that Anna Yanami had summoned them for an emergency club meeting.

Hikaru Tono, as the upbeat Anna Yanami, burst onto the scene with energy, reporting that their club advisor Ms. Sayoyo Konuki had instructed her to travel to Akishima, Tokyo, for a story assignment. Anna also had an important mission: to mail a letter addressed to “Shotaro Kitamura.”

A Surprise-Heavy Script and Theatrical Direction

For fans missing the series since its end six months ago, the return of the four core characters brought great joy. The event promised an original live reading by series creator Takibi Amamori and cover song performances, but few expected the show to begin straight with a play. Unlike typical readings, the cast wore headsets and moved across a set designed like a real stage, turning the experience into a dramatic performance.

The script, written specifically for this event, cleverly incorporated the Akishima setting and meta-references like a letter to the anime’s director. The author's deep understanding of the characters shone through in every scene, especially in a discussion about what the four would do with their free time in Tokyo—delighting longtime fans. Komari's barrage of witty one-liners provided plenty of laughs.

Following the reading and opening movie, the girls—Anna and Lemon—engaged in an amusing discussion about what outfits to wear for their Tokyo trip. The conversation was packed with references to the original work, like Anna's cousin living in Ōmiya and Lemon getting scouted on a college visit to Tokyo. Even the infamous “It’s cheating!” line from the anime made a triumphant return, drawing laughter from the audience.

Minami Tanaka, as Kazuhiko’s sister Kaju Nukumizu, also made her entrance. She joined her brother and Komari in planning outfit coordination for their Tokyo outing. Kaju’s full-blown brother complex, Kazuhiko’s cluelessness and chūnibyō tendencies, and Komari’s charm kept the audience captivated.
