The new movie in the Puella Magi Madoka Magica franchise, titled Puella Magi Madoka Magica: Walpurgis no Kaiten, is set to premiere in winter 2025. On March 22, the first key visual was unveiled, marking a major reveal for fans: the first-ever depiction of Homura Akemi in her magical girl form.

The striking visual features Madoka Kaname and Homura Akemi side by side in a dramatic, contrasting composition. This visual pairing hints at the thematic duality and emotional depth the series is known for. The image adds to the anticipation surrounding the long-awaited sequel to 2013’s Puella Magi Madoka Magica the Movie: Rebellion, which this film directly follows.

The key visual was crafted by Junichiro Taniguchi (animation director), with Kazuki Kawada serving as visual director. The background art was created by Hidekazu Kusamori, with animation finishing handled by SHAFT, the studio behind the original anime and previous films in the franchise.

Alongside the visual, a teaser trailer has also been released, hinting at the film’s unsettling atmosphere and introducing mysterious new characters. Fans can expect a continuation of the franchise’s trademark mix of psychological intensity, emotional storytelling, and visually stunning animation.
