Theatrical Prequel Mobile Suit Gundam GQuuuuuuX -Beginning- Box Office Update
The latest entry in the Gundam series, Mobile Suit Gundam GQuuuuuuX, first premiered in theaters as a prequel film titled Mobile Suit Gundam GQuuuuuuX -Beginning- on January 17.
As of Day 59, the film has grossed ¥3,190,771,000 (approx. $21.56 million at ¥148/USD) and has recorded a total of 1,934,740 admissions.
This revenue has surpassed the ¥2.3 billion ($15.54 million) record of Mobile Suit Gundam III: Encounters in Space (1982), making it the second-highest-grossing Gundam film in history. The top-grossing title remains Mobile Suit Gundam SEED FREEDOM (2024), which shattered a 42-year-old record with ¥5.38 billion ($36.35 million).

Story Overview: A New Gundam Era Begins
Set in a peaceful space colony, the story follows high school girl Amate Yuzuriha, whose life is disrupted after meeting Nyaan, a girl displaced by war. Drawn into the illegal mobile suit dueling competition "Clan Battle," Amate, known by her battle alias "Machu," pilots the powerful GQuuuuuuX. Her fierce battles intensify as she encounters Shuji, a mysterious boy piloting the enigmatic Gundam mobile suit—wanted by both military and police—signaling the dawn of a new era.
Collaborative Effort by Studio Khara and Sunrise

This ambitious new Gundam series is jointly produced by Studio Khara, acclaimed for the Evangelion films, and Gundam franchise veterans Sunrise. It is scheduled for broadcast starting April 8 on Nippon TV networks nationwide, with the theatrical release serving as an advance screening of selected restructured episodes.
The high-profile production team includes director Kazuya Tsurumaki (known for Rebuild of Evangelion), series composer Yoji Enokido, and mechanical designer Ikuto Yamashita. The anime stars voice talents Tomoyo Kurosawa as protagonist Amate Yuzuriha (Machu), Yui Ishikawa as Nyaan, and Shimba Tsuchiya as Shuji. The television anime premieres April 8 at 12:29 AM every Tuesday on Nippon TV and its affiliates.
