‘The Legend of Hei: The Future I Choose’ TV Version to Air in March – NHK E-Tele to Broadcast 5-Part Adaptation of the Film

On February 20, NHK announced that the theatrical anime film ‘The Legend of Hei: The Future I Choose’ will be adapted into a five-episode TV version airing on NHK E-Tele starting March 8, 2025.

Originally created by Chinese animator and director MTJJ, the film was produced by HMCH Studio and has become a landmark in Chinese animation.

Background & Japanese Release

First released as a web anime series in 2011, the story gained immense popularity.
A theatrical adaptation was later produced, making waves in China.
The film debuted in Japan in September 2019 (subtitled), followed by a nationwide dubbed release in November 2020.
Now, NHK E-Tele will air the TV version, dividing the film into five episodes.

Story Summary

🌿 A world where fairies lose their homes due to human-driven environmental destruction.
🐾 Xiao Hei, a black cat spirit, is forced to flee after humans destroy his forest home.
✨ He is rescued by Fu Shi, a fellow spirit, and joins him on a journey to a distant island.
💥 However, the island is soon targeted by Wu Xian, a powerful human enforcer, who suspects Fu Shi’s plans and moves to capture them.
🌀 Caught in the battle, Xiao Hei is taken by Wu Xian. As Fu Shi and his allies plan a daring rescue, Xiao Hei embarks on a journey that may change the future of spirits and humans alike.
