The new "Super Mario" animated film will see Illumination founder and CEO Chris Meledandri and Nintendo Representative Director Fellow Shigeru Miyamoto co-producing, with Aaron Horvath and Michael Jelenic directing, and Matthew Fogel handling the screenplay. Universal Pictures and Nintendo are funding the movie's production, with Universal Pictures distributing it worldwide.

Through its continued partnership with Nintendo, Illumination aims to deliver a mix of joy and discovery unique to Nintendo to people of all ages worldwide, offering the opportunity to engage with beloved characters and stories from one of the most well-known franchises globally.

The "Super Mario" movie, released in April 2023, was a blockbuster hit, surpassing 14 billion yen in box office revenue. Based on Nintendo's game characters "Super Mario Bros.", the film is an action-comedy where Mario and Luigi, twin brothers who run a plumbing business in New York, stumble into a magical new world through a mysterious pipe and confront a world crisis with the power of their bond. The movie was co-financed by Universal Pictures and Nintendo and released worldwide by Universal Pictures.
