Since the release of "Super Mario 64" in 1996, Charles Martinet has been the voice actor for Mario. Nintendo's official social media (formerly Twitter) stated, "Charles Martinet has served as the voice of Mario since 'Super Mario 64' in 1996. With his new appointment as Mario's goodwill ambassador, he will no longer voice Mario and his companions, but he will continue to engage with everyone about Mario."

Nintendo plans to release a video message from Charles and Shigeru Miyamoto, Representative Director and Fellow of the company, regarding this matter in the future. Nintendo expressed gratitude for Charles's contributions to bringing to life Mario and various other characters of the company.
