Mayumi Tanaka Cast as Roboco (Battle Manga world line) in 'Me & Roboco' Movie – Teaser Released: "I Played It as Usual"

The storyline of the upcoming theatrical movie "Me & Roboco" (set to release on April 18, 2025), based on the 3-minute anime, will feature an original story inspired by the "Multiverse and Roboco" episode. This episode brings together various versions of Roboco from alternate universes.

The additional cast announcement revealed that Mayumi Tanaka, famous for voicing Monkey D. Luffy in One Piece, will play a new character – Roboco from the "Battle Manga Universe," a world where she embarks on a pirate ship adventure in search of the "Seven Kneecaps" scattered across the globe. This Roboco character pays homage to battle manga classics, with her movie boasting a box office revenue of 20 billion yen.

■What was your first impression of the Me & Roboco movie?
I thought it was hilarious when I first skimmed through it. I was a bit unsure about how to approach the role, but they told me to go all out, so I gave it my all!"

■What did you focus on while playing this character? How do you feel about the role?
Since they wanted a Luffy-like performance, I didn’t overthink it and just played it as usual.

About "Me & Roboco"

The movie is based on the manga serialized in Weekly Shonen Jump since July 6, 2020. Set in an era where custom-made "OrderMaids" (OM) are household staples, it follows the peculiar daily life of Roboco, a clumsy yet powerful maid robot, and Bondo Taira, an ordinary fifth grader. Their chaotic comedic adventures explore friendship and family in a heartwarming, slapstick format.

The manga series has surpassed 1.5 million copies in circulation. The TV anime aired from December 2022 to June 2023 as a 3-minute short. Despite its brief runtime, it trended on X (formerly Twitter) during its premiere, achieving the 7th spot, and charmed audiences with its lighthearted humor and rapid pacing.
