When is the Live-Action 【Oshi no Ko】 Premiere? Star-Studded World Premiere Celebrates the Beginning of a New Legend
The world premiere of the live-action adaptation of 【Oshi no Ko】 took place in Tokyo on November 17, marking a monumental event for this global blockbuster. A total of 12 prominent cast and crew members gathered to celebrate the launch of this highly anticipated drama and movie series.
A Spectacular Stage to Launch the Legend
The event featured a lavishly designed stage that recreated the opulent energy of the story. Opening the ceremony, the performance group "Zero Kara Uchishi Hajimemasu" (Starting as Penlight Performers) thrilled the audience with a dynamic act. Their performance was set to the series’ original song “We Are the Invincible Idols!!”, paying homage to the fictional idol group B-Komachi from the story.
The excitement reached new heights as the cast made a grand entrance dressed in sleek black attire. Stars like Kaito Sakurai, Asuka Saito, Nagisa Saito, Nohana Hara, Mizuki Kayashima, Ano, and veteran actors Kotaro Yoshida, Kana Kurashina, Nobuaki Kaneko, and Jun Kaname joined directors Smith and Hana Matsumoto on stage. The cheering fans illuminated the venue with colorful penlights, creating a concert-like atmosphere.
A Heartfelt Reflection from the Cast
Kaito Sakurai, who plays the lead role of Aqua—a boy determined to uncover the truth behind the death of his mother, Ai—reflected on the significance of the event. “Exactly one year ago, we started filming this project. Seeing it come to life and sharing it with all of you today nearly brought me to tears backstage,” he shared, visibly moved by the milestone.
From Manga to Live Action: The 【Oshi no Ko】 Phenomenon
Based on the hit manga by Aka Akasaka and Mengo Yokoyari, serialized in Weekly Young Jump since 2020, the series has captured hearts worldwide. With over 18 million copies in circulation (as of August 2024), the story’s gripping mix of fantasy, suspense, and an unflinching exploration of the entertainment industry has made it a cultural sensation across generations.
Global Streaming and Film Release
The live-action drama will debut exclusively on Prime Video for Amazon Prime members starting November 28 at 9 PM JST. Following the series, a feature-length film distributed by Toei will hit theaters across Japan on December 20, continuing the story’s epic narrative.
