Making of Ghibli Park [Phase 2] Documentary Set for December Release: Blu-ray & DVD Pre-orders Open Now
The Ghibli Park, which opened on November 1, 2022, in Aichi Prefecture’s Expo 2005 Aichi Commemorative Park (Moricoro Park), will be featured in a new making-of documentary, The Making of Ghibli Park [Phase 2], set for release on Blu-ray and DVD on December 4. The documentary follows the production process leading up to the opening of the park’s second phase, continuing from the previous release, The Making of Ghibli Park [Phase 1]. In addition to Blu-ray and DVD, the documentary will be available for rental and digital distribution (both purchase and rental).
The construction of Ghibli Park was overseen by director Goro Miyazaki, whose deep passion for craftsmanship—similar to his approach to filmmaking—helped bring the park’s vision to life. With the addition of two new areas, the park now boasts five unique sections that embody Ghibli’s signature style.
The documentary spans 1,400 days of filming, covering the development of the "Mononoke Village," which opened on November 1, 2023, and the "Valley of Witches," which opened on March 16 of this year. Over 7.5 hours of footage are compiled into this documentary, spread across three discs.
"Mononoke Village" features immersive locations such as the learning center "Tatara-ba" and the sliding hill of Okkoto-nushi, evoking the rural landscapes seen in Princess Mononoke. The "Valley of Witches" is home to the towering "Howl’s Moving Castle," a 20-meter structure that seems alive, along with various rides like a merry-go-round. Magical elements and the dream of flying are incorporated throughout the buildings and streets. The documentary captures Goro Miyazaki’s high standards, met by the craftsmanship of various professionals, to vividly recreate the world of Ghibli within the park.
In a special feature, the documentary includes footage of Goro Miyazaki guiding Kokoro Hirasawa, who voiced Earwig in Earwig and the Witch, through the "Valley of Witches," as well as updates on new developments in the Phase 1 areas and newly added facilities in the park.
The Making of Ghibli Park [Phase 2] Blu-ray (3-disc set) will be priced at ¥10,560 (tax included), while the DVD (3-disc set) will be ¥7,920 (tax included). (Released by Walt Disney Japan, distributed by Happinet Media Marketing.)
