Star Detective Precure! and Ojamajo Doremi Team Up for First-Ever Anime Collaboration

Star Detective Precure! and Ojamajo Doremi are teaming up for their first-ever collaboration in Episode 39, scheduled to air on October 25. The one-episode crossover was developed around Star Detective Precure!'s 1999 setting, the same year the original Ojamajo Doremi TV anime was airing.

Episode 39 Brings Ojamajo Doremi Into a Halloween Story

Episode 39 follows Anna and her friends as they prepare costumes and decorations for a Halloween event in their shopping district. While helping with the festivities, they meet a young girl named Hinano who has become separated from her mother.

As they help Hinano return home, Ageseine appears disguised as a witch and steals a precious broom containing a Makoto Jewel. Anna and the others leave Hinano with Jet-senpai and pursue Ageseine, eventually realizing that she may have changed costumes to avoid being found.

Producers Explain How the 1999 Setting Made the Crossover Possible

Star Detective Precure! producer Soya Aramaki explained that bringing the two series together was a difficult challenge because of their different settings. The production team ultimately built the crossover around the fact that Star Detective Precure! takes place in 1999, when Ojamajo Doremi was airing on Japanese television.

Because of this approach, Doremi Harukaze herself does not directly appear as a character within the story. Instead, Ojamajo Doremi is treated as a TV anime that exists within the world of Star Detective Precure!, allowing the episode to incorporate the series in a way that fits its setting.

Ojamajo Doremi producer Hiromi Seki also reflected on working with a younger generation of staff members. She spoke about discussing the elements that were important to the original series and working again with writer Yoshimi Narita, while seeing the influence of directors Junichi Sato, Takuya Igarashi, Shigeyasu Yamauchi and Tatsuya Nagamine carried forward.

A special collaboration visual was also drawn by Ojamajo Doremi character designer Yoshihiko Umakoshi.
