2026 Sanrio Character Ranking Final Results Announced as Pompompurin Wins No. 1 for the Fifth Time

The 2026 Sanrio Character Ranking final results have been announced, with Pompompurin taking the No. 1 spot.

Pompompurin Wins During His Anniversary Year

The total number of votes reached a record high of 70,647,379, marking 112 percent compared with last year. The character crowned No. 1 was Pompompurin, who also placed first last year. Although Cinnamoroll led in the first preliminary ranking, Pompompurin received more than 7 million votes during his 30th anniversary year, winning first place for the second year in a row and for the fifth time overall.

Cinnamoroll ranked No. 2, followed by Pochacco at No. 3, Kuromi at No. 4, and Hello Kitty at No. 5. Characters that have long been loved by fans around the world once again received strong support this year.

Pompompurin also placed No. 1 in nine countries and regions, while Cinnamoroll took the top spot in four countries and regions.

On the official website, Sanrio has announced the full rankings for the 2026 Sanrio Character Ranking, the top 10 rankings by overseas countries and regions, the top 15 rankings for the 2026 Sanrio Character Ranking Partner Category, and the winners of each award in the 2026 Sanrio Character Ranking Happirina Friends Category.

Starting in September, Sanrio will also hold stage shows at 12 venues across Japan featuring the characters ranked from No. 1 to No. 10 in the 2026 Sanrio Character Ranking. Through dance performances, photo sessions, and other activities, the events will express gratitude to the fans who supported the characters.

The Sanrio Character Ranking began in 1986 in Sanrio’s official publication Monthly Ichigo Shimbun. It is a popular voting event in which selected characters from more than 450 Sanrio characters are entered, with rankings determined by the number of votes received. This year, 90 characters entered the event. A new voting method was also introduced this year, making it easier to vote than before.
