Reiji Miyajima Shares His Approach to Manga Creation
“Kakikomi” is a practical manga school led by active professional manga artists and editors. In the posted image, Miyajima explains his creative philosophy, stating that when working on a first chapter, creators tend to pack in too many ideas. He emphasizes the importance of clearly identifying what the core focus of the story is, otherwise it becomes difficult to cut unnecessary elements.
While many manga artists choose not to reveal their faces publicly, the shared photo clearly shows Miyajima’s face, making it a rare moment for fans.

About Rent-A-Girlfriend
Miyajima’s Rent-A-Girlfriend began serialization in Weekly Shonen Magazine published by Kodansha in July 2017. The story follows Kazuya Kinoshita, an unreliable college student living in Tokyo, who falls in love with Chizuru Mizuhara, a stunning “rental girlfriend.” In reality, Chizuru attends the same university under a different persona, and must keep her identity secret. As Kazuya struggles to control his feelings, the story develops into a romantic comedy involving family, friends, and even his ex girlfriend.
The series has surpassed 15 million copies in circulation. Its anime adaptation is currently airing its fifth season, and a live action drama was released in 2022.
