Masako Nozawa, Voice of Goku at 89, Takes on Dream “Beautiful Girl” Role in McDonald’s Anime-Style Ad

Veteran voice actress Masako Nozawa, 89, stars as herself in the McDonald’s commercial video titled “Baki de Koi Suru Tatsuta na Nozawa (バキで恋するタツタな野沢) Prologue ‘The Strongest Heroine Appears’” (English attempt: “Nozawa Falling in Love with Tatsuta via Baki: Prologue – The Strongest Heroine Appears”).

Although Nozawa has previously joked that she has never played a “beautiful girl,” she now takes on the role of a transformed “beautiful girl,” introduced as the strongest heroine of Chicken Tatsuta Academy, credited humorously as “Masako Nozawa, voiced by Masako Nozawa.”

McDonald’s first teased the campaign on its official X account with mysterious visuals referencing the anime Baki, posting phrases such as “Baki Koi begins—stay tuned for more!” alongside imagery connected to the collaboration. The campaign promotes three burgers: the classic Chicken Tatsuta, the new Tartar Yurinchi-style Chicken Tatsuta, and the Cheese Chicken Tatsuta.

The visuals feature characters from Baki alongside a beautiful girl who strongly resembles Nozawa, prompting surprised reactions online such as “Is that Masako Nozawa?” and “What is this?” In response, McDonald’s released additional images declaring, “Introducing the strongest heroine!”

The character is described as: “Masako Nozawa, voiced by Masako Nozawa. Brilliant, athletic, kind, and with the strongest voice. The strongest heroine at Chicken Tatsuta Academy. Her favorite Tatsuta is the Yurinchi-style.”

“I Wonder If I’ll Meet My Perfect Match” – A Playful Performance

A video was later released showing the transformed Nozawa speaking in character. She delivers a soft, maiden-like voice, saying, “I wonder if I’ll meet the strongest gentleman worthy of me at this school.”

Characters from Baki also appear, including Baki, who comments, “Too strong… interesting,” and Retsu Kaioh, who adds, “I would like to test my strength against her.”
The commercial concludes with the tagline “The strongest love on Earth begins,” followed by Nozawa delivering a line reminiscent of her iconic portrayal of Goku from Dragon Ball: “I wonder… this is exciting.”

Notably, while this marks her first “beautiful girl” role, Nozawa previously mentioned in an ORICON NEWS interview that she had never played such a character and might hesitate if offered, joking that the image would feel too different from herself. This project finally fulfills that long-held idea.
