TAAF2026 Announces New Invitation Titles Including The Venus Wars and Toward the Terra Special Screenings

The Tokyo Anime Award Festival 2026 has announced new invitation titles for TAAF2026, which will take place in Ikebukuro from March 13 to March 16.

The Tokyo Anime Award Festival, now in its 13th edition in 2026, is an international animation film festival held in Tokyo. The event centers on three major divisions. The Competition Section showcases animated works from around the world that have not yet received theatrical release in Japan. The Anime of the Year Section honors animated works released domestically in Japan. The Anime Achievement Section recognizes individuals who have made significant contributions to the animation industry, sharing the history, techniques, and legacy of pioneering creators.

In addition to these core programs, the festival features invitation screenings, symposiums, and workshops for children, creating opportunities for audiences of all ages to engage with animation culture.

TAAF2026 is organized with the goals of discovering and nurturing new talent, promoting animation culture and industry, and enhancing Tokyo’s appeal as a global city. Under the slogan “Tokyo becomes an animation hub,” the festival presents high quality and highly original works from around the world. By fostering交流 among animation fans, creators, and industry professionals, TAAF aims to generate inspiration and new creative waves that extend from Tokyo to the global stage.

Special Invitation Screenings

Among the newly announced invitation programs is a special feature dedicated to Takashi Yanase, offering animation screenings that families can enjoy together.

The festival will also present a selection screening and talk session for Apocalypse Hotel, as well as a special program highlighting Cartoon Saloon under the theme “A Gift from Ireland.”

In addition, commemorative screenings will be held for The Venus Wars and Toward the Terra as part of the Anime Achievement Section. These programs will include special talk sessions reflecting on the legacy and cultural impact of the works.

The Inter College Animation Festival 2025 Selection will also be featured, presenting works created by emerging student filmmakers and showcasing the next generation of animation talent.
