Aniplex and KADOKAWA have jointly established ANIMEC, a new anime film distribution company, marking a strategic move to strengthen the anime cinema business. The announcement was made on the 2nd.

The company name ANIMEC combines the words Anime and Cinema. It reflects the vision of delivering the appeal of anime films to fans while contributing to the growth of the industry.

In the official statement, the company explained that ANIMEC will specialize in theatrical distribution sales and promotional activities for anime films. It aims to co create value together with all stakeholders involved in each work, including fans, content holders, and theater operators.

The statement further noted that under optimal release strategies ranging from nationwide theatrical releases to special screenings of television anime, ANIMEC will maximize the value and appeal of each title. Working alongside the Sony Group and the KADOKAWA Group, the company intends to deliver more compelling anime film experiences to a wider audience.

It was also mentioned that ANIMEC shares its name with a popular anime magazine published until the 1980s. The companies explained that the new company name was chosen after informing Shinichiro Inoue, former Representative Director and Executive Officer Chief Anime Officer of KADOKAWA, who previously served as Deputy Editor in Chief of the magazine.
