Pokemon FireRed and LeafGreen Announced for Nintendo Switch Release on February 27 as 22 Year Old Classic Sparks Surprise Online

Pokemon FireRed and LeafGreen (FRLG), originally released in 2004, will be available on Nintendo Switch starting February 27. The announcement was made on February 20 through a sudden listing on the Nintendo eShop, which can be accessed directly from the console, catching fans off guard.

A Remake of the Original Pokemon Red and Green

Pokemon FireRed and LeafGreen are full remakes of the original Pokemon Red and Green, first launched in 1996 as the debut titles of the series. The remakes were released for the Game Boy Advance in 2004, featuring completely updated graphics compared to the original versions.

In addition to visual enhancements, the games introduced the Sevii Islands, a new area not included in the original Pokemon Red and Green. This expansion significantly broadened the scale and scope of the adventure. The titles also supported wireless communication using a dedicated Wireless Adapter, allowing players to trade and battle Pokemon without a cable connection.

The version being distributed this time faithfully recreates the previously released titles for Nintendo Switch. According to the official description, the language settings remain the same as the original release, and in game language changes are not supported. The price is set at 2000 yen.
